From imagination to reality

All MC 3D models are first imagined, then turned into reality. The process of fabrication first starts with an idea, a "what if?", sometimes months before anything is even done. The brainstorming then turns into the first sketches which then turn into the virtual model, all built using official deckplans and other important materials gathered along the way. The virtual models are absolutely essential for the MC 3D production line, as it's from these that the real, physical models are produced. Think of them as the blueprint.

produced to order

Virtual turns physical

With the virtual model sketched out - and fully detailed! -, it is then prepared for production. The scale is decided beforehand and the model is resized to match it, prepared, separated from details that are produced on the side, and, if needed, split in sections.

Once the first model is ready, it then follows into the process of creating decays and texturing, including flooring and other revelant details. Once that is done, assembling begins, and the model is put up for sale.

From them on, every model follows the same route: it is made to order. As a model is bought, production immediatedly begins and it is shipped a few days later.

History and origin

MC 3D's roots and origins trace back to early 2010s, when, then a teenager, I used to draw cruise ships - real and fictional ones - for fun after curricular activities.

Some years later, it was the summer of 2015 while on a professional internship that I learned about 3D printing - the root of everything done at MC 3D. Whilst I was always interested in technology, I had never heard of it and was definitely intrigued by it. Some months later, in April 2016, my first printer was home and the first ever prints were produced - random utility stuff, nothing to write home about and purely as a hobby. It was a Josef Prusa model which ran well into 2022's Spring, when it was retired. My first ever ship models were produced by it and to this day, it remains part of the MC 3D collection.

On the 17th of April 2022 I presented what can be considered as MC 3D's official first virtual model - the World Voyager - which was turned into physical models, some of the top sellers to this day. It was on the 25th September 2022 that I launched my first three models ever made available for public purchase: World Voyager (Nicko Cruises) and two versions of World Explorer (Rivages du Monde and Quark Expeditions liveries). A month later, the World Navigator and World Traveller followed. The rest, as they say, is history and results can be found on the Catalog tab. My decision is to focus on cruise ships that don't have official or commonly found models, finding a mix between those that make sense logistically and that fit the MC 3D vision.

As for me, I'm a ship enthusiast since I remember and an active ship spotter in my hometown of Funchal, Madeira Island for over 15 years now. This is not just a random investment, it is an ambition of mines to work with the industry I am ever so passioned about, and if you have ever purchased a model from me you've played a part in this beautiful journey of mines. My name is Mário Camacho, and it is truly my pleasure to have you here. Welcome to MC 3D.
